Terry Brunk’s Death Confirmed by WWE and AEW

Pro wrestling legend Sabu has died, leaving the wrestling world mourning the loss of Terry Brunk, an ECW icon. The hardcore wrestling icon has died at the age of 60, as confirmed by WWE and AEW on Sunday.

“From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave everything to professional wrestling,” AEW said in a post.

The news shocked fans just weeks after he wrestled a retirement match during WrestleMania weekend.

Final Match Took Place in Las Vegas

Sabu’s last match was held during Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 in Las Vegas. He faced Joey Janela in what would be his final in-ring appearance.

“It was an honor to give Sabu the sendoff he deserved,” said GCW owner Brett Lauderdale.

The match, promoted as his farewell, stayed true to his extreme legacy.

Legacy Built in ECW and Beyond

Sabu, trained by his uncle Ed “The Sheik” Farhat, first rose to fame in the 1990s ECW scene. There, he gained notoriety for his unrestrained style, dangerous venues, and barbed-wire fights.

He won three titles: ECW World Champion, ECW Tag Team Champion, and ECW Television Champion.

Sabu’s conflicts with Rob Van Dam and Taz are well-known. He also participated in New Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA, and WCW.

Sabu in WWE and AEW

Sabu briefly joined WWE after the company purchased ECW. He performed at WrestleMania 23 in 2007 as part of the ECW Originals team. He was released one month later.

In 2023, Sabu made a surprise appearance in AEW as a special enforcer for a match between Chris Jericho and Adam Cole.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of death.

It is still unknown what caused Sabu’s death. Fans and wrestlers continue to express their grief and sadness.
