Malik Beasley contract

Beasley Under Scrutiny for Alleged Betting Ties

Malik Beasley contract: Federal investigators are probing Pistons guard Malik Beasley for alleged gambling tied to NBA games. The 2023–24 season, during which Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, is the subject of the investigation.

The investigation is looking into potential anomalous betting patterns related to prop bets, such as bets on Beasley’s personal statistics.

Untrustworthy Bets with Changing Odds

The Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers will play on January 31, 2024, according to a source in the gaming business. Odds on Beasley grabbing fewer than 2.5 rebounds plummeted from +120 to -250 after a flurry of “under” bets. Ironically, Beasley finished with six rebounds—meaning the suspicious bets lost.

 Pistons Contract Talks on Hold

Beasley, 28, was reportedly close to finalizing a 3-year, $42 million deal with the Pistons. Those contract negotiations are now paused amid the investigation.

“An investigation is not a charge,” said Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney. “Malik is afforded the presumption of innocence.”

Haney confirmed he has spoken with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York, believed to be leading the case.

 NBA and Pistons Respond

The NBA is cooperating with federal authorities. “We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors’ investigation,” said league spokesperson Mike Bass.

The Detroit Pistons also acknowledged the situation but declined to comment further, deferring to the league.

 A Pattern in the NBA?

Beasley isn’t the first player to land in the gambling spotlight. Earlier in 2025, officials investigated Terry Rozier for suspicious betting tied to a March 2023 game. He hasn’t been charged.

In 2024, the NBA banned Jontay Porter of the Raptors after he disclosed confidential information to gamblers.

 Beasley’s Past Legal Troubles

This isn’t Beasley’s first legal issue. In 2020, he pleaded guilty to felony threats of violence and served 120 days in jail. The NBA suspended him for 12 games in 2021.

Despite past troubles, Beasley had a strong 2024–25 season, averaging 16.3 points and hitting 319 three-pointers—a new Pistons franchise record.
