Dawn Robinson homeless

Dawn Robinson, a founding member of the R&B girl group En Vogue from the 1990s, revealed something very personal: she has been homeless for the past three years and has been living in her car.

A New Chapter of Survival and Self-Discovery

In a YouTube video posted on March 11, Robinson, 58, opened up about her experience, saying,

“You guys, for the past three years, I have been living in my car… I said it, oh my gosh, it’s out.”

Robinson explained that she moved out of her parents’ home in Las Vegas in 2020 and relocated to Los Angeles. Initially, she planned to stay with her manager, but after that arrangement fell through, she spent eight months in a hotel before turning to “car life.”

The Reason She Decided to Live in Her Car

Robinson accepted the lifestyle as a path of self-discovery rather than seeing it as a sign of her demise . She researched the concept of living in a car, and after experiencing it firsthand, she said,

“I felt free… It just felt like the right thing to do.”

While she admitted that she misses her family and friends, she made it clear that she’s not seeking pity but instead sharing her story on her own terms.

Her Legacy in Music

Robinson was an original member of En Vogue, which was formed in 1989. She lent her powerful vocals to hits like:

  • “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”
  • “Giving Him Something He Can Feel”
  •  “Free Your Mind”

The group received six Grammy nominations from 1991 to 1997. In 1997, Robinson departed from En Vogue to work as a solo artist for Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. She later appeared in R&B Divas: Los Angeles and briefly returned to the group in 2005 and 2009.

Moving Forward

Despite the challenges, Robinson remains proud of her journey. She stated that if given the opportunity, she would live in an apartment, but she has no regrets.

“Be spontaneous… It’s scary. F— fear.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience and self-discovery can come in unexpected ways.
